Serving God as Missionaries for 16 Years: Trials and Triumphs

Life as missionaries can be an incredible journey filled with trials and triumphs. In our case, we crossed the border into Mexico on October 17, 2007, answering a higher calling to serve God. Over the past 16 years, we've experienced the highs and lows of missionary life, and we're here to share why it's absolutely worth it to serve God in this capacity.

Trusting in God's Plan

  • Embracing God's calling: Our journey began with a simple yet profound conviction to serve God in a foreign land. Despite the uncertainty, we trusted in His plan for us.

  • Walking by faith, not by sight: Throughout our missionary journey, we've learned the importance of relying on God's guidance and provision, even when the path seemed uncertain.

Trials We've Faced

  • Cultural adjustments: I grew up on the mission field, but Jenny has to adapt to a new culture. That can be challenging, but it's also an opportunity to grow and learn.

  • Financial struggles: Like any long-term commitment, financial challenges arose. However, we witnessed God's faithfulness in providing for our needs.

  • Language barriers: Again, I was already fluent in the language, but for Jenny communicating effectively in a foreign language took time and patience, but it opened doors to building relationships.

Triumphs We've Celebrated

  • National leaders and church planting: A significant triumph of our missionary work has been training nationals to plant churches. This has not only helped us to multiply our impact but also empowered local communities.

  • Transforming lives: Witnessing the transformation of individuals as they find faith and purpose is one of the most rewarding aspects of our ministry.

  • Mount Hebron Baptist Bible Institute: Our training ministry has played a pivotal role in equipping future leaders, enabling them to spread the Gospel further.

Why It's Worth It

  • Eternal impact: The fulfillment that comes from knowing we're playing a part in changing lives for eternity far outweighs any temporary challenges.

  • Growing our faith: Through the trials, our faith has deepened, and we've grown in ways we never thought possible.

  • God's faithfulness: Time and time again, we've seen God provide, whether it's financial support, divine appointments, or spiritual growth.

Conclusion

Serving God as missionaries for 16 years has been a life-changing and incredibly rewarding journey for us. The trials we've faced have been overshadowed by the triumphs we've celebrated, and our unwavering faith in God's plan has made it all worthwhile.

As we look back on our ministry and the impact of the Mount Hebron Baptist Bible Institute, we're convinced that serving God is more than a calling; it's a privilege. The eternal impact, personal growth, and the unwavering faith in God's faithfulness make every moment of this journey worthwhile. We can't wait to see what the next 16 years will bring, as we continue to follow the path God has laid out for us.
